  • Penguins spend around half their time in water and the other half on land.
  • While other birds have wings for flying, penguins have adapted flippers to help them swim in the water. 
  • Emperor penguins are hatched in August and in December will finally be able to take their first swim and fish on their own.
  • Once a female Emperor penguin lays an egg, the dad takes over and for 9 weeks takes care of the egg. He keeps his egg warm and endures extremely cold temperatures. He will go without food and will drop half his weight by the time the mom returns.
